Junior blades u13 girls 5-1 Dronfield u13 girls Junior blades u13 girls 5-1 Dronfield u13 girls

The girls were today in league cup action against fellow division 2 opposition Dronfield.

Hoping to progress to the next round the girls started slowly, not many goal scoring opportunities were created by either team in the first 20 minutes but it was Dronfield that had the better opening chances.

After settling into the game the girls were rewarded with the opening goal, with Taela-rose pouncing onto an inch perfect through ball by Layla S, she composed herself and drilled the ball into the net.

Any Nerves were now settled and the second followed shortly, with Taela-Rose getting her second goal of the game again being alert enough to get onto the through ball and calmly slotting home.

Goal number 3 came in the second half, with Isobel being the quickest and most alert, getting on the end of Emmies inch perfect corner to tap the ball in.

4-0 swiftly followed, Kailey getting a well deserved goal casually slotting into the bottom corner after another assist from Layla S who yet again in the centre midfield role was creating its of opportunities for her team mates.

Dronfield pulled a goal back to make it 4-1, getting a goal after a good bit of football and a swift counter attack following a junior blades corner.

With 5 minutes remaining Taela- Rose got a well deserved hat trick, again getting onto the ball and hitting the back of the net after great play by poppy, Kaikey and Layla S

A great performance after a slow start and a well deserved win to progress to round 2

Special mentions to the in form strikers and goal scorers today, Taela-Rose, Kailey and Isobel and midfielders Layla S, Mia and Emmie with the assists

Good solid team performance.

Well done girls

Player of the match
Taela-Rose

Well done to Jenson and Owen from our u7 red team Well done to Jenson and Owen from our u7 red team for getting Man of the Match in their game today.

Jenson continued his good form over the last few weeks with another solid performance. Scored 3 great goals and picked up some nice assists as well

Owen continued his fine scoring form with another 4 today. What was most pleasing though was how he scored those 4 goals. Running through and placing the ball in the corner past the keepers. This is something we have been asking him to do and today it came together perfectly. Well done boys!!⚽️⚽️⚽️

Peter will be missed massively as he was a major character in the U14s group. He’s spent 6 years at Junior Blades and has been on the periphery of academy football for the majority of this time. He epitomises what happens when you mix determination, talent, resilience and hardwork. Keep grafting P, the sky is the limit for you!

LJ got man of the match for his goals but mainly for his tackling and press. His energy and effort getting the ball back really spurred on the team and encouraged the others to do the same.

Reagan got the second man of the match for his performance in the last 10mins. The team could have switched off and relaxed but Reagan followed LJ’s lead with some strong tackles and some great forward passes. These are things he has asked him to improve on in the last few weeks so wanted to reward him with the medal for putting what he’s been asked to do into play πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well done to Oaklan and Lucas from our u7 red team Well done to Oaklan and Lucas from our u7 red team for getting Man of the Match in their game today.

Oaklan finally got his goal which he’s worked so hard for these last few months. In training he’s been working on getting the ball out his feet and strike it with confidence and today he did just that and the whole team is absolutely buzzing for him to get his first goal for us.

Lucas was a rock at the back today and made every tackle and really protected Freddie in goal. On top of that his passing was outstanding and he setup a lot of our attacks with his great distribution.

Top job from all the boys!

The team also held a one minute silence for Remembrance Sunday.

Junior blades u13 girls 3-2 Edenthorpe u13 girls Junior blades u13 girls 3-2 Edenthorpe u13 girls

Today the girls hosted Edenthorpe, winners of the doncaster girls league last season and were hoping to get back to winning ways after last weeks narrow loss.

The girls started well but were caught out on the counter by Edenthorpe who took an early lead. The girls were having a lot of the play but were finding it hard to find a breakthrough against a good organised team but eventually were rewarded for their efforts after nice work from Taela-Rose down the right who crossed the ball for Isobel, a clever bit of play from Isobel who saw that Mia was in space and better positioned to shoot and unselfishly squared the ball for Mia to cooly stick the ball in the net.

The Junior blades were having the better of the play but had to be aware of the threat Edenthorpe posed and again were caught out, a free kick for Edenthorpe wasn’t cleared and the ball fell to their striker who placed the ball just out of reach of keeper Maddie to give Edenthorpe a lead of 2-1 going into half time.

The half time team talk was focussed on making sure the girls knew to keep the pressure on, letting them know they would get chances and to not let their heads drop.

A much better second half saw the girls equalise with Mia getting her second goal of the game. Both teams were playing some good football but with 4 minutes left to go striker Taela-Rose pounced onto a nice through ball and calmly placed the ball into the back of the net to give the girls a lead for the first time in the game.

Thankfully the girls saw the game out and got their 6th win in 8 games, a great effort so far this season.

Well done today to all of the girls, a much improved performance to the week before

Goals
Mia 2
Taela-Rose 1

Special mentions to player of the match Mya, who put in a brilliant captains performance, leading by example and giving 110%, goal scorers Mia and Taela-Rose and also Edenthorpe, a good organised team who made it a very hard game for us.

Junior Blades u13 Girls 0-1 SWFC u13 girls The g Junior Blades u13 Girls 0-1 SWFC u13 girls

The girls today were playing Sheffield Wednesday girls who are our opposition 3 times in the next 4 weeks and were hoping to build on their great start to the season.

Starting with a 3-5-2 formation with wing backs due to the big pitch we quickly changed to 4-4-2 after Wednesday scored an early goal. This helped us to settle into the game but the girls just didn’t get going and the massive pitch seemed to suit Wednesday better.

Chances for both teams were limited but Wednesday had more and better opportunities and we had keeper Maddie to thank for keeping the score down to 1-0. Commanded her area great, pulled off some good saves and was very vocal.

The girls have done a great job so far this season and I’m sure they will learn a lot from this game.

Player of the match.

Junior Blades u13 girls 3-1 Rossington u13 girls Junior Blades u13 girls 3-1 Rossington u13 girls

Today the girls were visited by top of the league Rossington, a team that we had our very first friendly against when we formed 2 years ago. The girls today knew this would be a difficult game against a very good team who finished as runners up in the Doncaster league last year. The pre match talk was focused on being consistent and playing to our strengths.

After a good spell of pressure in the opening 20 minutes the girls were finally rewarded with a goal, with Lucy as strong as steady as ever playing a nice through ball to Isobel and the in form striker drilled the ball home
Hard and low to make it 1-0

That one goal settled the nerves for the girls and they started to let ther football ability show, great midfield dominance from layla s, Mya and Poppy meant that wing backs Emmie and Hollie had freedom to attack.

Half time finished 1-0 but the girls deserved more for their efforts, so the half time
Talk was focussed on keeping the pressure on and hopefully reaping the rewards for their first half efforts. Fortunately the girls got their rewards early into the second half, with Taela-Rose playing a quality pass into Kailey who smashed the ball home to make the score 2-0

The next goal was crucial, even more so with Rossington constantly threatening with fast pace and aggression, but this was cut out by defenders Layla, Eadie, Carmen and Ella.

The girls managed to get a well deserved 3rd goal, after some great build up play Kailey was in on goal and ruthlessly smashed the ball into the opposition net.

It wasn’t all plain sailing though, Rossington being a good team with good players were always a threat and they pulled a goal back to make it 3-1
