Thank You giffgaff

The Junior Blades would like to thank giffgaff for there generous donation of kit and training equipment to our U9’s team.

The community led mobile network, responded to a request for help from Junior Blades manager, Layen Wisdom.

We reached out to the local community asking for help in providing kit and training equipment for our youngsters and were over the moon when a brand as well known as giffgaff got in touch and offered to help us out. We really are so grateful for the sponsorship and support we have received and all of the players and parents have all said how good the new training kit looks. I really hope this will be the start of a long term partnership with giffgaff and once again just want to say a big thank you to all of those involved in making this a reality.

Layen Wisdom, U9 Manager

As part of the sponsorship deal giffgaff have provided the team with a new training kit and water bottles that were designed with the intention of combining the brand colours of both the mobile network provider and the Junior football Club. The result is a fantastic looking kit that is proving extremely popular. The other Junior Blades sections are already jealous of the new training wear !!

U9 Tournament Winners !

The Abbey Lane, hosted U9 tournament on the 30th June was a big success for the Junior Blades, as both of our U9 teams met in the final.

The one-two finish for the Blades was the perfect ending to a fabulous tournament.

I’m very proud of the lads and especially the triallists.

It is never easy coming into an established side but they did really well.

Both Junior Blades teams played some really good football and only lost one game between them all day which was the Blades v Blades game (game ended 1-0)

Layen Wisdom, U9 manager

“OpBlades12” Mission Accomplished

An Elite Force of Junior Blades U12 recently embarked upon a secret mission. For security reasons we have had to cover up their faces but they will go down in this Clubs history as the heroes that saved the world!

Well done men, mission complete!!

On Sunday 7th July the Junior Blades U12 took part in a team building event around Langsett Resevoir. The mission was to transport supplies to ally troops deep behind enemy lines.

General Nathan Flatley was in command of his troops and briefed the young soldiers of the mission. After reaching the rendezvous point at Langsett Barn Car Park at 12.30pm the group were given the task of transporting rucksacks laden with supplies around the resevoir and to nearby troops in need of the supplies.

The route was treacherous and the soldiers had to work together taking cover in the undergrowth, under bridges, in the trees and under water. The rucksacks had to be transported carefully as they contained equipment that could not be dropped or get wet.

The team had to work together to complete their mission but they managed to transport the cargo in one piece with no casualties.

Big thanks to General Flatley for organising a fun day out which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the team and coaches alike.

Golf Day a Big Success!!

The Junior Blades 1981 held their first ever golf day on Wednesday 3rd July at Hillsborough Golf Course. The event was a big success and raised some important funds for the junior football club.

20 teams and 77 players in total took part in the event which was played on a gloriously sunny day at Hillsborough. The format was a 2 out of 4 to count, stableford competition with players playing off a maxium of 18 handicap.

The event went better than we could have imagined. We had a great turnout of players. A good mix of both good and bad golfers and the whole day was not only a lot of fun but a good little fundraiser for the upcoming season. Hillsborough Golf Course were fantastic hosts and I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone thinking of holding a similar type of event. I’d also like to say a big thank you to all of the businesses that helped out. Whether it be sponsorship or through entering a team on the day. Every penny raised will go back into the Club and help provide a platform for the kids to learn and develop as footballers.

Chris Slack, Junior Blades Chairman

In the end the tournament was an incredibly close event with 7 teams coming out as joint 2nd place and a back nine countback needed to seperate the teams into the final places.

Team Westoby took 3rd place while Rowland Rats came in second place both with 86 points.

The eventual winners, with 89 points was Okeys Allstars made up of the Sheffield Steelers players Robert Dowd, Ben O’Connor and Commercial Manager, Mike O’Connor.

U8 Presentation Night

The Junior Blades U8 for the 2018/2019 season recently held their End of Season Awards night at Laycocks Sports and Social Club.

The team had a very successful season and were the Fluorite Cup Winners.

Tyler Smith, who came through the Sheffield United Academy system before turning pro, was on hand to present the trophies and every player received an individual trophy and a signed shirt to reward them for their hard work and effort throughout the season.

The teams coaches Layen, Levan and Mossy and a number of the age groups parents organised a fitting end of season event with individual cupcakes, sweet treats and prizes for the players.

The boys enjoyed a fantastic buffet supplied by Amigos on London Road before the individual awards were handed out.

We hope the kids enjoyed their presentation evening and we tried to offer them something a bit special with the individual framed shirts and trophies. The team really did us proud and the coaches want to say a big thank you to all the players for such a fun season and we are already looking forward to next year.
